Safeguarding Updates

Description

Keeping up to date with safeguarding can feel overwhelming, particularly with ongoing updates and increasing expectations on schools. This short 20-minute session is designed to give you a clear overview of key safeguarding updates and how to make effective use of the materials available on the Leadership Hub.

We will walk through the most relevant updates and show you how to quickly access and use safeguarding resources to support staff training, briefings and ongoing professional development.

This session is ideal for school leaders and safeguarding leads looking for a quick, practical refresher with immediate takeaways at the start of the new term.

Safeguarding Guidance

At Veema, we recommend that all staff receive at least six hours of safeguarding training across the academic year. This is best delivered through separate sessions rather than one-off training.

We also provide three short safeguarding activities each year to check staff understanding of key terminology and safeguarding issues.

Your responsibilities

Safeguarding training should reflect:

  • UK safeguarding best practice guidance
  • Your international inspection framework
  • The requirements of the country where your school is located

As DSLs and Senior Leaders, it is important to look beyond attendance and certificates. How confident are you that your staff understand safeguarding and can recognise and respond appropriately to concerns?

Online learning has an important role to play, but a certificate alone does not demonstrate understanding or create a strong safeguarding culture.
