During this short session we will review why some of the topics that we teach in PSHE education might be sensitive for our students-and staff. We will then reflect on some ways to ameliorate the impact of this.
We will then review the importance of setting an establishing ground rules, distancing techniques and establishing some starting points for learning to ensure a safe and appropriate learning environment for all concerned.
We will also then reflect on ways to respond to potentially challenging questions and comments that students might ask. We will consider some ‘micro scripts’ as good practice principles for responding to these questions/comments. For example, how should teachers respond if a student says:
“How would you support a friend who is grieving?”
“What is the best form of contraception?”
“Why do people self-harm and how can they stop?”
