INSET days are an essential time in schools when we bring everyone together, share ideas from all voices, collaborate, learn, and sharpen our focus on school priorities. But how can we make the most of our school INSETs, and is there a common thread between them that all staff are aware of? How do we avoid them from being top-down heavy or just considered another INSET or an external person coming in telling us how to do something? In this short blog, I’ve included some vital tips for getting INSET days right and what we can avoid. I have used these ideas in my school; some are from my book, which will be published in Summer 2024.
